DescriptionJob Summary
Demonstrate competent clinical skills; utilize critical thinking to identify and meet patient needs; achieve positive patient outcomes through group process; display leadership traits that contribute to attainment of patient and departmental goals; assist with unit QI/research projects; identify actual legal/ethical issues and implement appropriate nursing actions. Plans and administers professional nursing care in the Outpatient Surgery Center. Directs the work of technical or assistive staff supporting the operating room.
Oversees room and instrument set‑up, ensures appropriate levels of supplies or medications, and transfers the patient to and from the operating room. Monitors the patient and assists the surgeon during the procedure.

Initiates and effectively demonstrates behaviors that result in positive patient outcomes through group process; identifies need to change own practice based on PI/QI outcomes. - Quality Improvement/Research:
Expands understanding of research process and the specific application to nursing practice.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact). The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in:
1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs;
2) knowledge of growth and development; and
3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
Competency Statement:
Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.
