Job Summary:
To assess, treat, solve problems, counsel, educate and refer patients seen for primary or acute care in the clinic/related department, utilizing advanced assessment and evaluation techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Assess health status and health potential: plan, implement and evaluate health care needs of the patient/family.
- Plan, manage and evaluate therapeutic regimens for patients, consulting with physician(s) and other members of the health care team, including school officials.
- Plan, teach and counsel patients regarding current health care status and the signs and symptoms of illness.
- Assess growth and development of the patient.
- Perform clinical and therapeutic procedures.
- Assume a leadership role in developing nursing care policies and procedures for the unit.
- Assist with planning and monitoring quality improvement/control for the unit.
- Perform history and physical examination, and record data.
- Identify normal and abnormal findings, and consult as needed with physician to determine the plan of treatment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must possess knowledge and skills to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment, or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages.
- Competency in obtaining and interpreting information in terms of patient needs; knowledge of growth and development; understanding of range of treatment needed by the patients.
- Demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.
- Common Duties: maintain required education; demonstrate positive customer service; comply with attendance policy; participate in continuous quality improvement; perform work cost‑effective; perform work according to departmental pay and scheduling policies; align with mission and strategic plan; follow policies and procedures; perform related duties as assigned.
Education & Credentials:
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Required)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required – within 1 year of hire)
- Basic Life Support (Required – within 30 days of hire)
Other responsibilities:
- Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact).
- Common duties and responsibilities include maintaining documentation, customer service, attendance policy compliance, quality improvement activities, cost‑effective work, alignment with organizational mission and strategic plan, adherence to policies, and related duties as assigned.
