The House Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining quality patient care through effective management of the activities of the total patient care services during his/her assigned shift. Provides clinical leadership and administrative functions. Ensures the practice of established policy and procedures. In the absence of the Administrator and/or designee, the House Supervisor has the authority and responsibility for administrative decisions and appropriate notification of the Administrator‑on‑Call for escalation.
Responsibilities- Coordinate all aspects of patient care between the three hospital campuses.
- Move throughout all three hospitals to monitor, correct, and direct staff and resources as needed.
- Assure efficient patient flow within the Emergency Room, including the flow from ED to nursing units (including ICUs).
- Coordinate work schedules and shift coverage with the Clinical Resource Department and other support areas to ensure appropriate staffing coverage.
- Address issues with patients, family members and physicians if concerns about patient care arise; address and resolve issues and collaborate with the Administrator on‑call when needed.
- Work collaboratively with the transfer center, charge staff and physicians to facilitate patient flow.
- Assist charge nurses with identifying, understanding and applying various policies and procedures and privilege lists, and locating appropriate physicians as needed.
- Be proactive to assure placement of patients timely during night shift.
- Intervene when necessary to improve patient flow.
- Assist in coordination of Patient Transportation activities and services with other departments.
- Provide and maintain effective communication with medical staff to ensure efficient, economic, and quality performance of each department in providing quality health care, effective resource allocation and positive customer relations.
- Interface with managers, medical staff, patients, and families to resolve customer concerns and other operational issues and to improve customer satisfaction.
- Optimize efficiency of a variety of interrelated services between hospitals.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact). The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: (1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs;
(2) knowledge of growth and development; and (3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
Competency Statement:
Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.
Bachelor's Degree (Required).
Experience:
7-10 Years of Nursing Experience.
- Registered Nurse (Required)
- Basic Life Support (Required) Within 30 days of hire
