Overview
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Ortho/Med-Surg Overflow unit at a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of RN experience and at least 1 year of orthopedic specialty experience.
Requirements- Active WV or Compact RN license required; pending WV/Compact RN license will be considered
- BLS required; ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 1 year of orthopedic specialty experience
- Proficiency with telemetry, IV starts, and drip management including Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Argatroban, Amiodarone, and Dopamine (renal perfusion)
- Experience with orthopedic equipment including CPMs, Orthopat, Constavac, Hemovac, wound vacs, and traction
- Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Minimum 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Clean RN license required (cases with license hits reviewed on a case-by-case basis)
- Work setting is a short-term acute care hospital — a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member) with 855 staffed beds
- Unit specializes in patients who have undergone bone and joint reconstructive surgery, joint replacement, orthopedic trauma surgery, or sports injuries, with Med/Surg overflow capability
- Patient population is adults ages 18 and older
- Typical patient ratio is 1:4, with occasional flex to 1:5
- Remote telemetry monitoring is performed off-unit by a dedicated tech
- Night shift, 7P–7A (4x12s), with 36hr or 48hr contract options available
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
- Charting is performed in Cerner
- Parking is complimentary for travelers
- Unit operates under a team nursing model
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; candidates within 75–99 miles may be submitted for facility approval — local candidates are not accepted
- Former permanent employees of this facility must have a gap of at least 2 years from their last date of permanent employment before being considered as a traveler
- Flu vaccine is required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); medical exemptions with documented physician or allergist records are accepted
- COVID vaccine is not required
- Scrub color for RNs is royal blue/white
- Orientation is held every other week on Thursdays and Fridays:
Thursday is a full day in the computer lab, and Friday includes a half day in the lab followed by badging and a unit introduction - Schedule accommodation requests (RTO) are considered at the manager's discretion based on unit needs
