Utilize the nursing process, at a Clinical Nurse II level, to coordinate and participate in the operations on an assigned shift and unit. This is accomplished within a customer service and continuous quality improvement framework.

Demonstrates consistent use of nursing process in daily practice and manages more complex patients with minimal assistance. Knowledge and
Skills:
Identifies personal learning needs to be competent in area of practice; independently performs advanced skills; begins to assist others to develop skills using the teaching/learning process. Professional Relationships/Leadership:
Initiate and effectively demonstrate behaviors which result in positive patient outcomes through group process; identifies need to change own practice based on PI/QI outcomes. Quality Improvement/Research:
Expands understanding of research process and the specific application to nursing practice. - Perform staffing functions as delegated by the nurse manager. Adjust the schedule according to census and acuity.
- Assess the unit workload (including Medicus acuity), staff qualifications and other appropriate factors. Make assignments accordingly. Reassess throughout shifts and assignments accordingly. Authorize overtime.
- Assess quality/quantity of work in an ongoing manner. Assure policy and procedure compliance. Give feedback and assistance as needed.
- Orient and educate both new and current employees. Review documentation of education. Follow up as needed. Encourage/coach employees regarding opportunities for continuing education.
- Complete performance management and discipline procedures as delegated by nurse manager.
- Demonstrate positive and professional customer service and co‑worker relations.
- Assist nurse manager in managing within budget or other guidelines.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact):
The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in:
1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs;
2) knowledge of growth and development; and
3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
Competency Statement:
Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.
- Associate’s Degree (Required).
Experience:
2 years of nursing experience in area to be assigned. Substitution:
May substitute formal nursing program for the associate degree. - Bachelor’s Degree.
- Registered Nurse (Required).
- Basic Life Support (Required) within 30 days of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required) within 1 year of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (Required) within 1 year of hire.
