American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Mother-Baby/Couplet Care/Postpartum position at a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of RN experience and WV or compact licensure.
Requirements- Active WV or compact RN license required prior to start date; candidates with a pending license may be considered but must have an active license before beginning the assignment
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Minimum 1 year of Mother-Baby/Couplet Care or related in-specialty experience required
- BLS certification required
- NRP and CLC certifications preferred
- Required clinical skills include: antepartum care, Level 1 nursery, postpartum care, NST, reflex checks/edema assessment/clonus, EFM use, administration of blood and blood products, central line maintenance (CVC/PICC), peripheral IV insertion and maintenance, and administration of anticonvulsants, antihypertensives, heparin, and Pitocin
- Required newborn care skills include: circumcision assistance and post‑op site assessment, car seat education, cord care, discharge teaching, infant identification, IV antibiotics, metabolic screening, NAS management, newborn assessment, phototherapy, and thermoregulation
- Minimum 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Valid Driver's License and Social Security card required for consideration
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1–March 31); medical or allergist‑documented exemptions are the only accepted exceptions
- 21-bed private room Mother‑Baby unit within a short‑term acute care, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV NICU major teaching hospital
- Cares for postpartum moms, stable antepartum patients, and well or mildly ill newborns
- Nurses are cross‑trained to work both the Mother‑Baby floor and the Newborn Nursery (NBN)
- NBN responsibilities include managing mild RDS, newborn hypoglycemia, cardiac monitoring, phototherapy, IV antibiotics, and NAS babies in withdrawal
- Patient diagnoses include postpartum, antepartum, NAS, hyperbilirubinemia, neonatal sepsis, LPI, SGA, LGA, and hypoglycemia
- Unit delivers approximately 2,800 patients per year and supports breastfeeding families with two full‑time certified lactation specialists on staff
- Day shift schedule: 3x12‑hour shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
- Every other weekend required; no on‑call requirements
- Nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 1:6 on days and 1:8 on nights
- Floating within scope of practice required to meet facility needs
- Charting systems used:
Cerner, Accudose, and SBAR - Block schedule requests may be accommodated — discuss during interview
- First‑time travelers will not be considered — the manager requires experienced travel nurses only
- Candidates who have previously worked as permanent employees at this facility are not eligible to return as travelers until 2 years after their last permanent day worked
- Orientation is held every other week on Thursday and Friday, after which nurses report directly to the unit
- Staff team includes a Nurse Manager, Clinical Management Coordinator, four permanent Charge Nurses, RNs, LPNs, Nurse Externs, a Health Unit Coordinator, and Nursing Assistants
- Scrub color requirement:
Royal Blue, White, or a combination of both - No RTO restrictions; time‑off requests should be discussed during the interview
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible; those residing 75–99 miles away may be submitted for facility approval on a case‑by‑case basis
- Parking in the facility's parking garage is free for travelers
