Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Important:
Do not apply if you lack Cardiovascular (CV) or General Surgery experience. CV experience is mandatory.
Schedule:
Three 12-hour day shifts per week, either 9:00 AM-9:00 PM or 11:00 AM-11:00 PM, with every other weekend on-call duty.
Please limit holiday time-off requests to no more than one of the three major holidays.
Orientation sessions are held every other Friday.
Average daily case load: 22 cases.
Experience and Certification Requirements- Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
- At least 1 year of experience in the specialty area.
- First-time applicants accepted if experience requirements are met.
- Weekend work is required.
- BLS certification required.
- WV or Compact RN license required; pending licenses may be submitted.
One day of call per week, with 1-2 weekends on call within a 4-5 week rotation.
Call shifts may include:
- Saturday and Sunday 7:00 AM-7:00 PM call.
- Second call on weekends 7:00 AM-7:00 PM.
- Saturday 2:1 call coverage (second call 7:00 AM-7:00 PM and first call 7:00 PM-7:00 AM).
- Sunday second call 7:00 AM-7:00 PM.
Sunday through Friday night shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM) are staffed weekly; coverage is only needed if staff call in or are scheduled off.
Major holidays are covered by call shifts for emergencies only, following the same hours.
A 30-minute response time is required when on call.
Additional Requirements- Must reside within a 100-mile radius (75-99 miles may be approved by the facility).
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week.
- Circulate and scrub experience required.
- Proficiency in cardiac and general surgery, vascular, thoracic, robotics, vein harvesting, and radial artery harvesting.
- Vascular procedures including AV fistulas/grafts, aortic surgeries/bypasses, femoral to popliteal or distal bypasses, carotid surgeries, and embolectomies.
- Orthopedic surgeries such as arthroscopies and total joint replacements.
- General surgeries including colorectal/colon resections, laparoscopic-assisted surgeries, Whipple procedures, liver resections, thyroid surgeries, and mastectomies.
- ENT procedures including tracheostomies, laryngectomies, and radical neck dissections.
- Urology surgeries such as cystectomies, nephrectomies, prostatectomies, various implants, and cystoscopy-related procedures.
- Robotic surgeries including gynecologic, colorectal, hernia repairs, and laparoscopic Nissen fundoplications.
- Gynecologic surgeries including abdominal and vaginal hysterectomies, posterior and anterior repairs.
- Permanent employees are ineligible to return as travelers for two years after their last permanent day worked.
- Flu vaccination is mandatory unless medically exempt with documentation from an allergist or physician. The flu season is from October 1 to March 31. Vaccination is not required outside this period.
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required.
