Position: Electrician-DHS-DCR-Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail-Fayette Co.

Job Summary

Minimum Special Hiring Rate: $37,862.00. Under general supervision, performs experienced journey level work maintaining, inspecting, repairing, ordering, and installing electrical components, parts and equipment. The electrician completes all work in a safe, secure, and timely manner and in compliance with applicable code and trade practices. Inspects and remains alert for electrical dangers and code violations, which if discovered are reported to the Buildings and Ground Manager.

Ensures completion of preventive maintenance schedules and ensures all related log and reports are properly completed and submitted. May perform additional duties as assigned by the Buildings and Ground Manager and/or supervisor. Other duties as needed and assist in security post as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, inspect, repair, order, and install electrical components, parts and equipment.
  • Conduct work safely, promptly, and in compliance with code and trade practices.
  • Inspect for electrical dangers and code violations; report any findings to the Buildings and Ground Manager.
  • Complete preventive maintenance schedules; fill and submit logs and reports.
  • Assist building security as required.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Buildings and Ground Manager and/or supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Training:
    Graduation from a standard four‑year high school or the equivalent.
  • Experience:

    Two years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in electrical work.
  • Substitution:
    Successful completion of two years of vocational school training may be substituted for the required experience OR successful completion of the journey‑level electrician’s examination administered by the State Fire Marshal.
  • Special Requirement:
    Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA‑approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the Clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
Compensation and Benefits

Minimum Special Hiring Rate: $37,862.00. Division of Corrections:
Probationary period 6 months. State employment offers a variety of benefits. to visit the Division of Personnel's Benefits Page.

Critical Vacancy Pay

In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5,000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility.

Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Details
  • $5,000 added to minimum starting rate at specified facilities.
  • Annual base building pay differential of $250 after one year of service.
  • Additional $5,000 removed if employee leaves a critical vacancy pay facility, unless transferring to another CVPF.
