Facilities​/Equipment Maintenance Technician-DCR-Southern Regional Jail-Raleigh

Under general supervision at the full‑performance level, this position is critical as it provides upkeep in building safety for inmates and staff. Performs preventive maintenance on numerous items and systems throughout the facility as allowed by code and standard, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and heating and cooling equipment. The employee also handles snow removal, lawn care, and maintenance of departmental fleet (e.g., lawn mowers, weed eaters, tractor).

• Perform preventive maintenance on building safety systems such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and other mechanical components.
• Execute repair work on electrical, plumbing, and building structures, including doors, windows, floors, and other components.
• Lead and work with inmate crew to accomplish assigned maintenance tasks.
• Maintain logs, charts, and completion records of work performed.
• Generate and submit purchase orders for department needs.

• Training: Graduation from a standard four‑year high school, GED, four‑year apprenticeship program, or two‑year post‑secondary technical school.
• Substitution: Experience in air‑conditioning, heating or refrigeration may be substituted for the required training on a year‑for‑year basis.
• Experience: Four (4) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in heating, cooling, ventilation or the mechanical or building trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plasterer, painter, welder, machinist, mechanic or masonry work.
• Special Requirement: Some positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the Clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
• Documentation: All education, licensure or certification must be verified with a copy of an official transcript, license or certificate.
