Position: Equipment Operator 4 _ (Core Driller, Equipt Operator, Mechanic)

Overview

Equipment Operator 4 for infrastructure projects at CTL Engineering/CTL Infrastructure. Roles include Core Driller, Equipment Operator, and Mechanic.

Highlights
  • Performs advanced level, specialized skilled work in construction and maintenance of highways, bridges, and related structures; operates under-bridge inspection trucks, tractor-trailer low drag vehicles to transport equipment; core drilling and Crew Chief responsibilities.
  • Position will be assigned in one of the following areas:
    Core Driller, Equipment Operator, or Mechanic.
  • May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather.
Responsibilities
  • Core Driller
    • Assemble drill rig and related equipment on location.
    • Position the drilling rig using a winch and steel cables.
    • Operate the drilling rig.
    • Identify and classify the rock and soil found in the drilling sample.
    • Label core boxes for depth and location of the sample.
    • Repair drilling rig and related equipment.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Equipment Operator
    • Perform pre-operational check of equipment.
    • Operate a tractor-trailer low drag to transport equipment.
    • Manipulate levers and other controls for articulating booms.
    • Operate an under-bridge inspection truck.
    • Lead or train lower-level transportation workers.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Mechanic
    • Lead a working shop team of lower-level mechanics at the Equipment Division or District HQ.
    • Road test or perform final repairs on equipment.
    • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
    • Travel may be required; a valid driver s license is required.
    • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of advanced-level methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment.
  • Knowledge of operation of trucks used to reach under bridges; knowledge of the Division of Highways Equipment Management System and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of welding equipment and cutting equipment, welding rod specifications (AWS).
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics; knowledge of melting temperatures of metals used in bridge maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of materials, design, and assembly procedures used in welding; knowledge of rock, aggregate, and soil in core drilling; safety practices for core drilling.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine repairs; ability to train lower-level mechanics; ability to read and lay out plans.
  • Ability to operate drilling rig and related equipment; ability to assemble drilling rig; ability to classify rock/aggregate/soil from core drilling; ability to maintain simple records.
Required Experience
  • Core Driller
    : A valid class A or B Commercial Driver s License is required for the area of assignment; five (5) years of core drilling/oil and gas drilling or operating drilling equipment; no substitutions.
  • Equipment Operator
    : A valid class A or B CDL is required for the area of assignment; five (5) years of experience operating various equipment or core drilling equipment; no substitutions.
  • Mechanic
    : CDL required within six (6) months of employment; five (5) years as an automotive mechanic; special requirements for IN W 4 Mechanic: graduation from an approved auto/diesel college or proof of a current passing certificate in any 3 ASE.
Physical Demands
  • Considerable and strenuous physical exertion; frequent climbing of tall ladders, bridges, or related structures.
  • Operate machinery by hand with strenuous activity; may lift up to 75 pounds or more.
Work Environment
  • High risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or environmental stress; safety precautions required.
  • Possible work at great heights, extreme weather, or conditions beyond control.
  • Frequent exposure to fast-moving traffic, hazardous chemicals/materials, heavy equipment, and electrical equipment; adherence to safety regulations is vital.
