Position Summary:

The Parent Community Resource Center Support Community/Parent Member serves as a liaison between families, schools, and community agencies to strengthen family engagement and support student success. This position provides information, resources, training, and individualized assistance to families while promoting positive school-home-community partnerships throughout Kanawha County Schools.

• Provide information, and resources for parents on topics such as parenting skills, problem-solving strategies, educational planning, behavior management, home learning activities, and other areas that strengthen family engagement.
• Assist families on an individual basis in understanding their children's educational needs and identifying opportunities and services available through Kanawha County Schools.
• Connect families with appropriate community services, agencies, and outreach programs.
• Create and implement a Parent Support network across Kanawha County Schools, which includes recruiting knowledgeable KCS Parent Mentors, facilitation of the mentors and support for parents and guardians requesting the network support.
• Serve as an information and referral resource regarding community programs and services available to students and families.
• Collaborate with the Kanawha County Schools Communications Director to promote awareness of available services, resources, events, and trainings.
• Assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of Kanawha County Schools outreach events.
• Conduct bimonthly (twice per month) West Virginia Birth to Three (BTT) transition meetings to support families as children possibly transition into school-based services. These meetings occur every other Wednesday from 9:00 a.m.

• Prepare materials for the Birth to Three transition meetings, conduct meetings independently and send out information to parents following each meeting.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of services, referrals, and family contacts as required weekly log of completed task

The Community/Parent member either has experience as an individual with a disability or experience supporting an individual with a disability. High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of current laws, regulations, and policies affecting individuals with disabilities, including Section 504, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and West Virginia Policy 2419, and West Virginia Birth to Three. Understanding of educational processes, including Student Assistance Teams (SAT), special education referrals, evaluations, and the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process.

Experience identifying and assessing parent and family needs related to a child's education. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency with technology, including email, Google Drive components including Google Forms, Google Sheets and Google Documents Ability to work collaboratively and supportively with families, school personnel, community agencies, and stakeholders.

Commitment to family engagement and advocacy. Knowledge of local community resources and support services. Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism. Strong problem-solving skills and a positive, collaborative approach to supporting students and families.
