As the Test Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, managing, developing, and overseeing the execution of test procedures, data collection, and analysis. Your work involves testing and analyzing various powertrain systems and sub‑systems in the test cell and/or vehicle level environment. You will standardize procedures, configure test systems, collect and analyze data, produce test reports, and work closely as a daily interface between internal/external business partners and support personnel.
Responsibilities- Establish and generate standard operating procedures and document practices
- Utilize a systems engineering approach to design, develop, implement, and complete reliable, repeatable testing to support business needs and timing
- Contribute and help lead department continuous improvement activities to increase testing efficiency, reduce cost, and drive high levels of quality
- Assume appropriate responsibilities as a member of the assigned product development team
- Participate and lead planning efforts and/or status meetings
- Promote collaboration on all work related assignments
- Maintain willingness to share professional knowledge and experience with teammates
- Plan, manage, and oversee the execution of product tests internal or external to Engineering Operations
- Create, manage, and deliver multiple projects on‑time and to budget
- Assure facilities and support areas are informed, equipped, and prepared to match the flow of test needs
- Issue the appropriate instructional documents (work requests) as required to initiate and support the flow of testing activities
- Assist in gathering and performing analysis of test data to ensure its validity
- Communicate technical data to internal and external engineering organizations/agencies
- Have experience and basic understanding of computer programming to modify durability test cycles and post‑processing applications
- Document test events/results through Test Reports, log entries, and database entries as appropriate
- Prepare or assist in preparation of program bids or requests for cost estimates
- Observe applicable procedures and practices as delineated in Test Operations Manual, PE Procedures, and Standard Procedures
- Manage, monitor, and assist in assembly process of test units and disposition of parts
- Adhere to and strive to improve the engineering development process
- Establish and update best practices and standardized testing procedures
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering or equivalent degree/experience
- 2+ years of Mechanical/Electrical/Automotive Engineering or equivalent experience
- Proficient in oral and written business communication
- High level of interpersonal skills
- Ability to set and meet goals for all deliverables
- Moderate/adept mechanical competence
- Proficiency with computer operations, including Microsoft Office tools
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings required
- Experience in laboratory test environment
- Experience and knowledge of automatic transmission operation, clutches, controls (both hydraulic and electrical), hydraulics, gears, electric machines, and hybrid and electrified propulsion systems desired but not required
- Experience and understanding of computer programming to write and modify test cycles and support data analysis efforts
- Troubleshooting experience in electronic controls, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems preferred
