Carpenter

This role focuses on building high-quality blackout and layout materials that support production crews working with rolling and fixed beds. You will work with plastic, wood, foam, and other materials to create precise components used in the manufacturing of structural and architectural precast concrete wall panels for industrial, commercial, and multi-family construction projects across the Midwest and Mid-South regions.

Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and tend panel saws, chop saws, table saws, routers, wood-nailing machines, and other woodworking equipment as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, cast books, and panel drawings to obtain dimensions and specifications.
  • Cut, fit, and assemble blackouts, rips, IPs, and other components according to given dimensions and project requirements.
  • Use tape measures and rules to verify dimensions accurately to 1/16th of an inch.
  • Apply fasteners and adhesives to connect components and assemble them into complete units.
  • Inspect wood and other materials to ensure they are not warped, cracked, or swollen before use.
  • Deliver all finished products to the appropriate production or staging areas in an organized and timely manner.
  • Clean work areas daily and maintain a safe, orderly, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Follow all safety procedures while operating tools and equipment and report any unsafe conditions.
  • Coordinate with production and set-up crews to ensure materials are prepared and available when needed.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in construction and carpentry.
  • Experience in finish carpentry.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools to 1/16th of an inch.
  • Strong woodworking skills with previous relevant hands-on experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, cast books, and panel drawings.
  • Experience using various carpentry tools and machines, including saws, routers, and nailing equipment.
  • High attention to detail and precision in measurements and assembly.
  • Ability to inspect materials for defects such as warping, cracking, or swelling.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a construction, manufacturing, or precast concrete environment is beneficial.
  • Comfort working with multiple materials such as wood, plastic, and foam.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a production team.
  • Strong focus on safety and adherence to established procedures.
  • Willingness to learn plant-specific processes and standards.

Environment

This is a first shift role with typical start times at 6:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. You can expect to work 10–12 hour days and must be willing to work overtime, including extended hours as needed. The plant environment focuses on producing structural and architectural precast concrete wall panels, with active use of woodworking tools, saws, routers, and other carpentry equipment.

The setting is a production floor where safety, cleanliness, and organization are essential, and employees are expected to maintain a clean work area and follow all safety practices throughout their shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlestown, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
