Summary
We are seeking a full-time Classroom Assistant to work with emotionally impaired students at Meadowview - EI:
Packard. The ideal candidate should have a passion for working with children and a desire to help them succeed academically and socially. The Classroom Assistant will work under the supervision of a certified teacher and will assist in providing a safe and supportive learning environment for emotionally impaired students.
- Assist the teacher in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with emotional impairments
- Provide support and guidance to students in the classroom and during activities
- Help students with daily living skills, such as personal hygiene and organization
- Monitor student behavior and intervene as needed to maintain a safe and positive learning environment
- Collaborate with other school staff, such as counselors and social workers, to provide comprehensive support to emotionally impaired students
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
- Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or school administration
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- One of the following:
- o Pass Basic Skills Examination as approved by the Michigan Department of Education (examples may include: ACT, SAT, Professional Readiness Exam (PRE), or Basic Skills Test (BST).
- o Pass ETS Parapro Assessment
- o Possession of a two-year/Associate’s degree or higher in any major
- o Possession of 60 or more semester credits from an institute of higher learning and meet all state and federal rules and regulations.
- One (1) year or more experience in a school setting providing direct support to students.
- Possession of an Associate’s Degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field.
- One (1) year or more experience working with emotionally impaired students.
- Three (3) years or more experience working with individuals with special needs, such as: learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disabilities and behavioral disorders.
