Special Education Testing Teacher Consultant

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education, the testing teacher consultant will assist in assessing/evaluating studentsforspecialeducation eligibility andassistin determiningwhatissuesareaffectingthestudents’learning.

Theteacherconsultant willworkcloselywithlocal district teachers, administrators, and related service staff to develop

Individual Education Plans (IEP) forstudentswho qualify for special education. The teacher consultant for testing will also assist in identifying academic targets for students and what supportsstudentsneed to be successful academically.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrate an understanding ofcurrent federalandstate laws,and rules regarding child find,evaluation,eligibility,Least Restrictive Environment (LRE),Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and implementation.

  • Demonstrate knowledgeandunderstanding of child growth and development, knowledge of assessments and diagnosis andresearchrelated to learning,instructional strategies,and classroom management.
  • Assistteamswiththe Reviewof Existing  Evaluation Data(REED) process,including coordination of meetings,and by completingstudentrecord reviews.
  • Ability to conduct achievement assessmentsandclassroomobservationsto assist evaluation teams.
  • Abilitytoassist teachers with implementing strategies tocreatesuccess for students with disabilities.
  • Abilitytomonitor students’ datatodemonstrateacademic and behavioral growth.
  • Communicate individual plans for students to staff to facilitate a whole school approach tostudentimprovement.
  • Workincollaborationwithschooladministrationtoaddresstheneedsofourmostat-risk learners,withthefocuson improving academics.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm andthe interpersonal skills to relate with students, staff, administration,parents, andthecommunity.
  • Providestaffdevelopment to promote increased competencyandimproved student outcomes.
  • Attend required staff meetings and serve, as appropriate,on staff committees, including MTSS teams.
  • Participateinfaculty,school,parent,andcommunitymeetingsandprogramswiththe intent to share available resources.
  • Assist families with finding necessary resources.
  • Mustbeorganizedandabletomeettimelinesandmonthlydeadlines.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and inwriting.
  • Demonstratetheabilitytouseelectronic equipmentforword processing,data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations,and telecommunications.
  • Otherdutiesassignedbythedirectorand/orsupervisorasdeemednecessaryandappropriate which are in accordance with contractual rules and legal guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess a master’s degree in special education.

Possessavalid Michiganteachingcertificatewithaspecialeducationendorsement.(LD preferred).

Completedaminimumofthreeyearsofsatisfactoryteachingexperience,notlessthantwo years of which shall be in teaching students with a disability in a special education classroom.

EXPERIENCE:

Demonstrated ability working with a wide age range of children and young adults.

Demonstratedinstructionalconsultationskillsincludingoutstandingorganizationand communication.

Evidenceoftheability toworkwith awidevarietyofparents,professionalstaffand non-professional staff.

Previous experience in Collaborative Evaluation Teams.
