Court Security Officer
Under the general supervision of the Administrative Services Commander or designee, responsible for the security of the County Courthouse while working in the capacity of Court Security Officer. This position will be selected at the discretion of the Sheriff.

Responsibilities- Watch individuals entering the County Courthouse building to ensure safety of those inside, including workers and visitors.
- Make security checks of the courthouse and its perimeter on foot for contraband and weapons.
- Direct people through the people mover and have them place objects in containers and on the belt for inspection.
- Stand and monitor the x‑ray machine to look for weapons.
- Observe the Magnetometer results, walk to the individual when necessary, and use a handheld scanner accordingly.
- Switch positions between x‑ray operator and Magnetometer operator every hour to avoid excess exposure.
- Assist deputies with an arrest, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints.
- Qualify at the range from positions which include standing, kneeling, and prone.
- Work all hours when necessary, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and occasionally upon short notice.
- Report to Central Dispatch regarding any issues.
- Communicate verbally and effectively by listening to people and by giving information, directions, and commands.
- Load, unload, aim and fire handguns, shotguns, rifles, and other agency firearms from various body positions in situations that justify the use of deadly force while maintaining emotional control under extreme stress.
- Perform other duties as directed by a higher authority.
Prefer at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
ExperiencePrior experience as a law‑enforcement officer is desirable but not required.
Physical and Vision RequirementsMust possess normal hearing, color vision, and 20/20 corrected vision in each eye. Must be physically sound, without sensory impediment, and able to meet the following physical duties.
- Medium Work:
Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently, up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. May have to move unconscious people during emergencies. - Reaching, Handling, Fingering, Feeling:
Reach, seize, hold, and manipulate objects as required. - Talking and Hearing:
Express ideas verbally and perceive sounds. - Seeing:
Ability to perceive objects by sight, including acuity at 20 feet and 20 inches, depth perception, field of vision, accommodation, and color vision. Must cope with night vision needs.
Worker will spend most of the time indoors, with occasional outdoor duties for search and security. Hazards include proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, scaffolding, exposure to burns, radiative energy, explosives, toxins, and biological agents.
