Mechanical Technician
This role focuses on sanding, buffing, and detailing automotive surfaces to achieve a high-gloss, mirror-like finish on specialized vehicles. You will use a variety of hand and power tools to prepare and refine surfaces, remove imperfections, and support mechanical assembly work in a production environment.
Responsibilities
- Sand and buff automotive and metal surfaces to remove imperfections and achieve a smooth, high-gloss, mirror-like finish.
- Use power tools such as angle grinders, drills, screw guns, and other equipment to perform surface preparation and mechanical tasks.
- Perform automotive-style detailing work, including surface finishing, polishing, and touch-ups as needed.
- Follow detailed measurements using a tape measure to ensure precise cuts, fits, and alignments as required for assemblies.
- Assist with mechanical assembly tasks, including fitting, securing, and adjusting components using hand and power tools.
- Inspect work pieces and finished surfaces to verify quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
- Work effectively in a team environment, communicating clearly and following instructions from leads and supervisors.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are used safely and stored properly.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Perform physically demanding tasks such as bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing ladders to access work areas.
- Lift and move materials and components weighing up to 40 pounds as part of daily duties.
Essential Skills
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and perform basic mechanical tasks.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure to precise measurements, with at least 2 years of experience using measurement tools in a practical setting.
- Minimum 2 years of experience using hand tools and power tools such as drills, screw guns, and caulk guns.
- Experience with sanding and buffing surfaces, ideally in an automotive paint or auto body detailing environment.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools, including angle grinders and other finishing equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with coworkers across different functions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and follow directions accurately.
- Physical ability to frequently bend, stoop, squat, and climb up and down ladders throughout the workday.
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr.
