Deposit Controller

A growing financial institution is establishing a dedicated Director-level Deposit Accounting leadership role to centralize, elevate, and professionalize deposit accounting across the organization. This position is being created to bring consistent governance, reporting ownership, and strategic insight to deposit accounting in the same way other balance sheet areas are already managed.

This is not a deposit operations role. The focus is financial statement ownership, accounting strategy, and executive partnership across Accounting, FP&A, and Treasury. The role will serve as the senior accounting authority for deposits, supporting new product initiatives, acquisitions, and long-term scalability of the bank’s financial infrastructure.

• Own end-to-end oversight of deposit accounting, including monthly close, reporting, and financial statement presentation
• Lead analysis related to deposit balances, income, yield, and related financial impacts
• Ensure accurate deposit product classification, GL mapping, and account structure across entities and systems
• Oversee internal controls, governance, and documentation related to deposit accounting activities
• Act as the primary deposit accounting subject matter expert for senior leadership, FP&A, and Treasury
• Partner on new deposit products, balance sheet initiatives, and acquisition-related integrations
• Help design and refine deposit accounting frameworks, reporting standards, and reconciliation processes
• Lead, develop, and mentor accounting managers and people leaders within the deposits function
• Support audits, regulatory reviews, and examiner requests related to deposit accounting
• Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and scalable accounting practices in a multi-system environment

• Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience in Accounting, Audit, or Financial Analysis, including leadership responsibilities OR High School Diploma/GED with 14+ years of progressive experience in Accounting, Audit, or Financial Analysis, including leadership responsibilities
• Strong accounting foundation at the Senior Manager, Controller, or Director level
• Direct experience with deposits from an accounting, finance, or audit perspective
• Demonstrated exposure to:
• Deposit balance sheet and income statement ownership
• Yield, margin, or NIM-related analysis tied to deposit products
• Deposit product classification and general ledger mapping
• Executive presence with the ability to engage confidently with senior finance and business leaders
• Experience operating in complex or multi-system accounting environments preferred
• CPA, Treasury exposure, internal audit background, or acquisition integration experience are helpful but not required
