Carolina PRG is partnering with a rapidly growing, private equity backed company to identify a Business Unit Controller to lead financial operations for a newly acquired business unit and ensure accurate, timely reporting into our consolidated corporate close.
The Business Unit Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting activities for a business unit with revenues up to $100M. This role leads the month‑end close process, manages a small accounting team, ensures compliance with corporate policies, and partners closely with operations leadership to drive financial performance. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and experienced in a multi‑entity corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Month-End Close- Lead the full month‑end close process for the business unit, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to corporate deadlines.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, WIP schedules, and variance analyses.
- Manage POC revenue recognition and ensure accurate job‑level financial reporting.
- Deliver monthly financial statements and reporting packages that roll up into the consolidated corporate close.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Manage, mentor, and develop an accounting team of up to five professionals.
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll coordination, job costing, and general ledger management.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with operations leaders to interpret financial results and support decision‑making.
- Provide insights on trends, risks, and opportunities impacting financial performance.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range planning activities.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure adherence to corporate governance standards.
- Support external audits, internal audits, and compliance reviews.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (BS).
- 7+ years of progressive corporate accounting experience
, including responsibility for month‑end close. - Experience leading an accounting team of up to five
. - Strong understanding of GAAP and multi‑entity corporate structures.
- Proven ability to manage financial operations for a business unit or division up to $100M in revenue.
- Hands‑on experience with WIP and POC accounting in a project‑based environment.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with ERP systems.
- CPA certification
. - Experience in construction, field services, or other project‑based industries.
- Background in private equity‑backed or rapidly scaling organizations.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
