Business Unit Controller

Carolina PRG is partnering with a rapidly growing, private equity backed company to identify a Business Unit Controller to lead financial operations for a newly acquired business unit and ensure accurate, timely reporting into our consolidated corporate close.

The Business Unit Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting activities for a business unit with revenues up to $100M. This role leads the month‑end close process, manages a small accounting team, ensures compliance with corporate policies, and partners closely with operations leadership to drive financial performance. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and experienced in a multi‑entity corporate environment.

• Lead the full month‑end close process for the business unit, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to corporate deadlines.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, WIP schedules, and variance analyses.
• Manage POC revenue recognition and ensure accurate job‑level financial reporting.
• Deliver monthly financial statements and reporting packages that roll up into the consolidated corporate close.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
• Manage, mentor, and develop an accounting team of up to five professionals.
• Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll coordination, job costing, and general ledger management.
• Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

• Collaborate with operations leaders to interpret financial results and support decision‑making.
• Provide insights on trends, risks, and opportunities impacting financial performance.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range planning activities.

• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure adherence to corporate governance standards.
• Support external audits, internal audits, and compliance reviews.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (BS).
• 7+ years of progressive corporate accounting experience

• Experience leading an accounting team of up to five

• Strong understanding of GAAP and multi‑entity corporate structures.
• Proven ability to manage financial operations for a business unit or division up to $100M in revenue.
• Hands‑on experience with WIP and POC accounting in a project‑based environment.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with ERP systems.
