Carolina PRG has partnered with a locally based $1B+ consumer services company to complement their collaborative, outgoing, continuous improvement minded leadership team with a Senior Manager, Segment Accounting. This company believes empowering every person on the leadership team inspires the team to drive their work and pushes them to challenge the status quo. They are seeking a Senior Manager, Segment Accounting that can help shape the future of the accounting & financial processes and contribute to the company’s mission through delivering excellence across the accounting organization.

The Senior Manager, Segment Accounting is a key accounting leader responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting activities for a designated operating unit or reportable segment of this $2B+ company. This role is critical in an environment with identified material weaknesses, requiring strong Controlling execution, and hands‑on leadership to stabilize close and reporting processes, remediate internal control deficiencies, and restore confidence in segment‑level financial information.

The position serves as the primary accounting owner for the segment and a strategic partner to Corporate Accounting, SOX, FP&A, Internal Audit, and external auditors.

Hybrid schedule of 3 days in office per week

Key Responsibilities:

Segment Accounting & Close Ownership
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for the operating segment, ensuring timely, accurate, and GAAP‑compliant financial results
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analyses, with a focus on improving completeness, accuracy, and audit‑readiness of documentation
  • Ensure segment results appropriately roll up to consolidated financial statements and align with corporate accounting policies
Internal Controls
  • Serve as a primary owner for remediation of identified control deficiencies impacting the segment
  • Design, enhance, and implement key preventive and detective controls, including documentation of processes, risks, and controls
  • Partner closely with SOX, Internal Audit, External Auditors to execute remediation plans, address audit findings, and support testing
  • Establish sustainable control discipline and reinforce accountability across the segment accounting team
Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting Support
  • Support segment‑level inputs for Forms 10‑K and 10‑Q, including footnotes, MD&A support schedules, and management representation
  • Partner with Technical Accounting, Consolidations, and Financial Reporting teams as needed
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of managers and senior accountants supporting segment accounting
  • Set the standard of quality, timeliness, and control execution in a remediation environment
  • Identify skill gaps and drive targeted training to elevate technical accounting and ICFR capabilities
Cross‑Functional Partnership
  • Act as the accounting liaison to segment operations, FP&A, IT, Tax, and Legal
  • Collaborate with FP&A and Operations to explain actual results, trends, and variances while maintaining appropriate accounting rigor and independence
  • Support system improvements, process automation, and data quality initiatives impacting segment reporting
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)
  • 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in a public company
  • Direct experience operating in an environment with material weaknesses, restatements, or significant ICFR deficiencies
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX/ICFR requirements
  • Proven ability to manage complex closes, lead teams through change, and partner effectively with auditors
  • Prior experience as a segment controller or operating unit accounting lead
  • Background in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) with audit or accounting advisory experience preferred
  • Experience implementing new controls, remediating deficiencies, and stabilizing accounting operations post‑growth or transformation
  • Exposure to ERP and close automation tools
