Summary
The incumbent serves as a Forensic Auditor in the Financial Investigative Services Division (FISD) of the Office of Science and Technology (OST) within the ATF. The role involves providing comprehensive financial investigative services to support criminal investigations under the Bureau’s jurisdiction.
Responsibilities- Provide advice and assistance to ATF Special Agents and federal, state, and local prosecutors regarding findings about financial condition, sources and uses of funds, and other financial aspects of investigations.
- Plan and conduct financial investigations of persons or entities suspected of involvement in criminal schemes.
- Prepare reports, exhibits, and charts summarizing findings for the end user.
- Research applicable databases, analyze financial records, and provide investigative leads based on interviews and financial analysis.
- Provide formal and informal training to ATF and non‑ATF personnel in financial investigative techniques, auditing, or related fields.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Selective Service registration is required for males born on or after December 31, 1959.
- May be required to serve a one‑year probationary period.
- Must pass a drug screening and be subject to random drug testing.
- Background investigation must determine suitability for Federal employment.
- Must meet all applicable time‑in‑grade requirements by the closing date.

QualificationsTo qualify as a Forensic Auditor (Financial) at GS‑0511‑12, applicants must meet the following educational and experience requirements by the closing date.
- Degree Requirements: A degree in accounting, auditing, or a related field (e.g., business administration, finance, public administration) supplemented with 24 semester hours in accounting, including up to 6 hours in business law.
- Combination of
Education and Experience:
At least 4 years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college‑level education, and training that provides professional accounting knowledge, and must include one of the following:- Twenty‑four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses (up to 6 hours of business law).
- A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.
- Completion of a degree with substantial accounting coursework (e.g., 15 semester hours) that, combined with demonstrated professional performance and a panel determination, equates to the 4‑year requirement.
- Specialized
Experience:
Demonstrated experience in forensic accounting/auditing, conducting financial investigations or complex audits involving multiple businesses, leading financial assignments and teams, and developing reports and work products in compliance with standards and presenting findings to auditors, investigators, prosecutors, and triers of fact, both orally and in writing.
- Meet CTAP or ICTAP eligibility criteria.
- Be rated well‑qualified for the position (score 85 or above).
- Submit required documentation to support CTAP or ICTAP eligibility.
