Sr. Payroll Tax Specialist / Payroll Operations / Charlotte, NC (Hybrid)
Our client is a leading organization with a large, complex payroll environment supporting multi-state operations. Based in Charlotte, NC, they are looking to hire a Sr. Payroll Tax Specialist on a 12-month contract basis. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week onsite in Charlotte, NC
.
This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll tax professional who thrives on solving complex tax challenges and driving process improvements. You'll play a critical role in ensuring payroll tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions while partnering closely with Accounting, HRIT, and third-party payroll vendors. If you have strong Workday experience and enjoy working in a collaborative environment where your expertise directly impacts payroll operations, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution while expanding your knowledge within a large-scale enterprise setting.
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Pay Rate: $35.00 - $40.00/hour
Required Skills & Experience3+ years of payroll tax experience required
Experience supporting multi-state payroll tax operations
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
Experience with payroll tax filings, reconciliations, and compliance processes
Experience researching and resolving payroll tax notices
Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
Ability to work onsite in Charlotte, NC three days per week
Bachelor's degree preferred
5+ years of payroll tax experience preferred
Hands-on Workday Payroll experience strongly preferred
Experience collaborating with third-party payroll vendors
Experience supporting audits and compliance reporting
Experience driving process improvements and automation initiatives

Review and maintain Workday Payroll Tax configurations across legal entities and jurisdictions
Partner with payroll vendors and internal teams to update and reconcile payroll tax data
Review, reconcile, and process monthly and quarterly payroll tax filings
Manage SUI rate updates and jurisdiction registrations/closures
Research and resolve payroll tax notices and compliance issues
Prepare audit documentation and respond to audit-related requests
Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing, including regular and supplemental payrolls
Identify and implement payroll process improvements and system enhancements
Conduct audits to ensure payroll data integrity and compliance
Generate reporting and key metrics to monitor payroll tax compliance
Collaborate cross-functionally to streamline processes and reduce manual effort
