This role plays a critical part in providing accurate and timely financial information to management, lenders, investors, and ownership while supporting strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and value‑creation efforts. Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for hands‑on and overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance functions for a private equity‑backed organization. This role plays a critical part in providing accurate and timely financial information to management, lenders, investors, and ownership while supporting strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and value‑creation efforts. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical accounting expertise, experience in a fast‑paced PE environment, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead all day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and interactions with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders.
  • Support private equity ownership reporting requirements, including monthly financial packages, covenant reporting, and board presentation materials.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial analyses.
  • Lead accounting integration efforts related to mergers, acquisitions, and business combinations, including purchase accounting under ASC 805.
  • Maintain lease accounting compliance under ASC 842.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and recommend operational improvements to enhance profitability and cash flow.
  • Monitor working capital metrics and support initiatives to improve liquidity and operational efficiency.
  • Manage and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with ERP implementations, system enhancements, and process automation initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum of 7‑10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience working in a private equity‑backed company required.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit management.
  • Experience with acquisition accounting, including ASC 805 purchase accounting.
  • Experience with lease accounting under ASC 842.
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented environment.
  • Multi‑location operations experience.
  • Event Rental Industry a plus.
  • Track record of successfully integrating acquired businesses and improving accounting processes.
