Controller, Accounting, Accounting Manager

The Controller will be responsible for the integrity and timeliness of all financial information, including hands-on management of monthly and annual close, WIP/job cost accounting, cash management, and external audit coordination. This individual will also be responsible for the accounting team and serve as a trusted business partner to operations, project management, and executive leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process; deliver accurate financial statements within defined deadlines
• Prepare consolidated financial statements under U.S. GAAP accounting standards and Company policies
• Oversee job cost integrity across all projects, including budgets, commitments, change orders, and cost-to-complete forecasts
• Prepare and review monthly WIP schedules; analyze over/under-billings and revenue recognition
• Direct AP, AR, Payroll, and General Accounting teams, also ensuring subcontractor payments, lien waivers, and customer billings are processed accurately
• Coordinate internal and external audits as well as assisting with annual tax filing
• Lead, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and implement new policies, procedures, and system optimizations to drive efficiency and accuracy

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CMA strongly preferred)
• 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant commercial construction industry experience
• Prior experience in a construction environment with knowledge of job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards and internal controls frameworks
• Advanced Excel skills and ability to translate financial data into business insights
• Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills; ability to influence project-level decisions
