Are you an accounting professional with experience supporting commercial real estate development projects? We are seeking a Development Accountant to play a key role in managing project-level accounting, financial reporting, job cost tracking, and budget monitoring throughout the development lifecycle.
This position offers the opportunity to work closely with development, construction, asset management, and finance teams while supporting high-impact commercial real estate projects.
Key Responsibilities- Track and reconcile job costs, including commitments, invoices, payments, and retainage.
- Review, code, and process development and construction-related invoices.
- Support lender draw requests and reimbursement packages.
- Monitor project budgets, actual costs, and forecasted spending.
- Reconcile accounts related to construction in progress, development costs, accruals, and accounts payable.
- Assist with month-end and quarter-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Prepare financial reports for management, lenders, investors, and auditors.
- Maintain supporting schedules for capitalization, project transfers, and project closeouts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate project cost reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and system efficiencies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate development or construction accounting.
- Experience with Yardi or a similar real estate accounting platform.
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting and development project accounting.
- Knowledge of construction draws, capitalized costs, and project budgeting.
- Advanced Excel skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- AIA billing, retainage accounting, lender reporting, and draw schedules.
- Project-level and entity-level financial reporting.
- Supporting audits and tax reporting for development entities.
