We are seeking a detail-oriented Development Accountant to support accounting and reporting for commercial real estate development projects. This role will be responsible for project-level accounting, job cost tracking, invoice processing, budget monitoring, and supporting financial reporting throughout the development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have experience with Yardi, commercial real estate development accounting, and job cost accounting.
Key Responsibilities- Record and reconcile job cost activity, including commitments, invoices, payments, and retainage.
- Review, code, and process development and construction-related invoices.
- Support lender draw requests and reimbursement packages with complete backup documentation.
- Track development budgets, actual costs, and forecasted spend against approved budgets.
- Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts related to construction in progress, development costs, accruals, and accounts payable.
- Assist with month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Prepare project-level reporting for internal management, lenders, investors, and auditors.
- Maintain supporting schedules for capitalization, project transfers, and closeout activities.
- Partner with development, construction, asset management, and finance teams to ensure accurate cost reporting.
- Help improve accounting processes and optimize workflows within Yardi and related systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate development or construction accounting.
- Experience with Yardi or another real estate accounting system.
- Working knowledge of job cost accounting and development project accounting.
- Understanding of construction draws, capitalized costs, and project budgeting.
- Strong Excel skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with commercial real estate development accounting.
- Familiarity with retainage, AIA billing, lender reporting, and draw schedules.
- Exposure to project-level and entity-level financial reporting.
- Experience supporting audits and tax reporting for development entities.
