Senior Accountant
A large, publicly traded organization headquartered in Charlotte is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the accounting team supporting one of its largest and most strategically important business units. This is not a traditional Senior Accountant role focused solely on journal entries and reconciliations. This individual will have meaningful ownership of the month-end close and financial performance of a multi-billion-dollar business representing a significant portion of the company's overall revenue.
The position offers direct exposure to accounting and finance leadership, partnership with FP&A, and significant long-term growth potential. It is an excellent opportunity for someone coming from public accounting or a combination of public accounting and industry who wants to build broader operational accounting experience within a large public-company environment.
- Take significant ownership of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for a large and highly visible business unit
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting accounting schedules
- Analyze P&L activity, account trends, variances, and underlying business drivers
- Partner closely with FP&A during monthly P&L reviews and financial performance discussions
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of general ledger activity across assigned areas
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual account activity
- Support accounting for areas such as revenue, margins, accruals, intercompany activity, and other balance sheet and income statement accounts
- Assist with internal controls, audit requests, and compliance requirements
- Prepare recurring financial reporting and ad hoc analyses for accounting and finance leadership
- Develop a strong understanding of the complete financial picture of the business rather than focusing on one narrow accounting function
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and efficiency
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Approximately 2–5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and the month-end close process
- Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial analysis
- Ability to understand how activity flows through the P&L, balance sheet, and overall financial statements
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large volumes of financial data
- Ability to independently research issues, identify variances, and drive items through resolution
- Public accounting experience
- Combination of public accounting and 1–2+ years of corporate/industry accounting experience
- Experience with in a large, complex, or publicly traded organization
- CPA or progress toward CPA certification
- Experience with enterprise accounting, consolidation, or reconciliation systems
