About

The Role

The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations. This role involves preparing financial statements, managing accounts, and supporting the finance team with audits, tax filings, and process improvements. The Staff Accountant will work closely with other departments to ensure financial operations are aligned with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Primary responsible for accounts payable preparing weekly check runs.
  • Prepare weekly subcontractors payment batches and ensure subcontractors compliance (COI, subcontracts agreement, ROL, etc.).
  • Perform month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare and review account analysis and support financial audits.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
  • Assist with tax filings, including sales tax and property tax, as necessary.
  • Support internal and external audits, providing requested documentation and explanations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements in accounting operations.
  • Assist with ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and implement best practices.
  • Respond to inquiries from management regarding financial data and reports.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven culture within the finance department.
  • Conduct ad hoc financial analysis as required.
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (CPA certification or in-progress certification is a plus).
  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with accounting software (Sage 300 preferred).
  • Construction experience preferred.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, v-lookup, financial modeling).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Proficient in accounting software systems (Sage 300, Power BI)
