Carolina PRG has partnered with a $2B publicly traded Charlotte-based headquarters that is seeking a Senior Lease Accountant to help build a best-in-class public-company lease accounting function. Reporting to the Manager Lease Accounting, this hands-on position will help strengthen day-to-day accounting processes, support remediation activities, and assist with the company’s lease system transition by validating data, testing processes, documenting procedures, and supporting accurate financial reporting under U.S. GAAP, ASC 842, and SOX requirements.

** Hybrid schedule of 3 days in office per week**

Key Responsibilities:

Lease Accounting
  • Prepare and maintain accounting for operating leases, finance leases, lease modifications, additions, terminations, and remeasurements in accordance with ASC 842.
  • Support completeness and accuracy of lease populations, abstracts, assumptions, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly lease accounting entries, including ROU asset amortization, lease liability activity, additions, and terminations.
  • Analyze lease agreements and amendments to support proper accounting treatment.
  • Coordinate with Real Estate, Legal, Operations, FP&A, and other stakeholders to identify lease events timely.
  • Maintain lease accounting schedules and support lease system and ERP data integrity.
  • Support the company’s lease system transition, including data validation, user acceptance testing, reporting review, reconciliation of converted balances, and process documentation.
Journal Entries & Close Process
  • Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries related to lease accounting and assigned corporate accounting areas.
  • Ensure journal entries are supported, documented, and compliant with accounting policies and control requirements.
  • Investigate unusual transactions, variances, or errors and assist with timely resolution.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities while meeting established deadlines.
Account Reconciliations & Balance Sheet Integrity
  • Prepare and maintain complex reconciliations for lease-related balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensure reconciliations are completed timely, accurately, and supported with clear audit-ready documentation.
  • Investigate reconciling items, perform root-cause analysis, and assist with resolution of exceptions.
  • Support improvements to reconciliation quality, standardization, and compliance with company policies.
Internal Controls & Material Weakness Remediation
  • Support remediation activities related to lease accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Execute assigned SOX controls and maintain evidence demonstrating effective control performance.
  • Assist with documenting processes, risks, controls, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support Accounting Management, SOX, Internal Audit, and External Audit teams during remediation and testing activities.
  • Identify control gaps or process weaknesses observed through daily work and recommend practical improvements.
Audit & Compliance Support
  • Prepare support requested by Internal Audit and external auditors.
  • Maintain audit-ready work papers, reconciliations, schedules, and journal entry support.
  • Assist with audit inquiries and control testing requests.
  • Support compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and company accounting policies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, ICFR, and SOX compliance requirements.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, audit support, and control evidence.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Public company or public accounting experience.
  • Experience with lease accounting software or lease administration systems such as Fin Query, Prolease or similar platforms is a plus.
