The Payroll Manager will oversee the organization's weekly payroll process for approximately 450 employees across union, non-union, and salaried populations. This is a complex payroll environment with varying pay structures, union-specific requirements, and frequent exceptions.
The successful candidate will be highly detail-oriented, comfortable investigating discrepancies, and committed to ensuring payroll is processed accurately, efficiently, and on time. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert while partnering with HR, Finance, management, and employees on payroll-related matters.
Responsibilities- Manage and oversee the complete weekly payroll process for approximately 450 employees.
- Process payroll for union, non-union, and salaried employee populations with varying pay structures and requirements.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing using UKG.
- Review payroll for accuracy and investigate discrepancies, exceptions, and unusual pay scenarios.
- Interpret and apply requirements related to union agreements and collective bargaining agreements.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and organizational payroll requirements.
- Partner with HR, Finance, management, and employees to resolve payroll questions and issues.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and primary point of contact for complex payroll matters.
- Review and maintain payroll-related data, records, and processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiency.
- Support payroll-related reconciliations, reporting, journal entries, and other accounting activities as needed.
- Assist with month-end close and other Finance/Accounting responsibilities where appropriate.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive payroll and employee information.
- 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, ideally including Payroll Manager, Payroll Supervisor, or Senior Payroll Specialist responsibilities.
- Strong experience managing weekly payroll cycles in a complex environment.
- Hands-on experience with UKG strongly preferred.
- Experience processing union payroll and interpreting collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience supporting multiple employee classifications and varying pay structures.
- Strong understanding of payroll compliance and payroll-related processes.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and resolve discrepancies.
- Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, or payroll-related financial reporting is a significant plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across HR, Finance, and operational teams.
- Ability to manage deadlines and maintain accuracy in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
