MCSO Volunteer Coordinator
Salary Range: $46,523.60 - $58,154.50

Position SummaryThe Volunteer Coordinator for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Programs Department serves as the primary liaison between the detention facility and its volunteers, contractors, and community partners. This position is responsible for overseeing onboarding, compliance tracking, data preservation, stakeholder communication, and operational support to ensure the effective delivery of programming and services within the secure environment. The Volunteer Coordinator plays a critical role in strengthening community partnerships, maintaining regulatory compliance.
This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, professional communication, and the ability to work collaboratively within a correctional setting.
The Volunteer Coordinator enhances program delivery within MCSO detention facilities by ensuring volunteers and contractors are properly onboarded, supported, and aligned with agency standards. By maintaining strong community partnerships and operational efficiency, this role contributes directly to resident access to rehabilitative services, institutional compliance, and the overall mission of the MCSO Programs Department.
Essential Functions Volunteer & Contractor Coordination- Lead and manage the onboarding process for volunteers, contractors, and community partners, including orientation facilitation and compliance documentation.
- Conduct facility tours for new volunteers, contractors, and community partners.
- Maintain comprehensive databases tracking training completion, background clearances, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with ACA staff to ensure all volunteer and contractor processes meet applicable accreditation standards.
- Recruit volunteers to support program initiatives and community engagement.
- Develop and maintain a Volunteer & Contractor Welcome Packet.
- Provide contractor onboarding support (OMS access, roster procedures, scheduling logistics, etc.).
- Communicate important updates including holidays, facility closures, and policy changes.
- Prepare and distribute thank-you letters, celebratory acknowledgments, and termination correspondence.
- Develop and administer onboarding and annual satisfaction surveys.
- Organize volunteer and contractor appreciation events, including recognition luncheons.
- Process and fulfill Resident Management Application (RMA) requests for indigent hygiene and toiletry products.
- Support and maintain resident incentive programs in accordance with MCSO policies and procedures.
- Moderate virtual program classes for residents via approved online platforms as needed.
- Provide notary services to residents within assigned areas.
- Maintain inventory and distribute recreation items to housing units per established policies
- Provide administrative support to the assigned supervisor and the MCSO Programs Department as needed.
- Capture data and prepare reports related to assigned program areas.
- Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders via email and telephone.
- Support overall operational continuity within the Programs Division.
