SALARY RANGE: $55,072.00 - $84,205.00
The Office of the Public Defender, District 22, Caswell and Rockingham counties, seeks a qualified individual to provide the following support, but not limited to the following: attorney support, manage file opening and closing, document preparation, telephone answering, copying, library upkeep, preparing and submitting documents regarding office statistics. Other tasks may be assigned.
Job duties for the Administrative Assistant include but are not limited to the following:- Review incoming cases for conflicts.
- Submit incoming cases to Chief with assignment recommendations.
- Cases will be assigned to private counsel only in conflict cases.
- Managing opening and closing of files; DSS, Juvenile, Criminal, and child support
- Assure that attorney fee applications are submitted to the court when the file is closed.
- Prepare and submit documents regarding office statistics as required by IDS and AOC.
- Prepare HR paperwork as required by IDS and AOC including on boarding, separation, leave and vacation;
Review and release payroll time for employees;
Maintain and submit records relating to employee leave and vacation as required. - Submit maintenance requests.
- Prepare and submit mileage and other reimbursement requests.
- Submit AOC Store orders and special-order requests.
- Schedule prison/jail visits for attorneys
- Assist in client rehab admissions
- Obtain medical records per attorney requests
- Answer phones and manage client contacts as required.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Skills and Abilities

Competencies:
Knowledge of: office practices and procedures and legal secretarial science; word processing and some familiarity with other software such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Skills in: MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to: apply specific rules and regulations to process and maintain records and documents learned in school or through work experience; transcribe material into correct form and to use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling; type with accuracy and speed required by the hiring authority; compose correspondence independently; follow established guidelines; schedule and coordinate a variety of appointments and meetings.

MinimumEducation and Experience Requirements:
Completion of high school and six years of progressively responsible legal secretarial or administrative office management experience; or completion of an associate degree program in legal secretarial science and four years of progressively responsible paralegal experience or completion of
