Under the direction of the Vice President of Grants & Government Partnerships, the Grant Writer & Administrator plays a critical role in securing and sustaining funding that supports youth across eastern North Carolina. This is a high-impact, revenue-generating position responsible for leading compelling proposal development, conducting strategic research, and managing post-award compliance to ensure continued funding success.

As the organization’s primary grant writer and grant operations lead, this role develops competitive proposals to federal, state, local, and private funders while overseeing grant reporting, systems, and compliance processes. Working in close partnership with the Vice President of Grants & Government Partnerships and the Chief Development Officer, the Grant Writer & Administrator ensures alignment across programs, finance, and operations to meet annual revenue targets and advance the organization’s mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the organization’s primary grant writer, producing high-quality proposals aligned with organizational priorities and funder requirements.
  • Meet annual grant revenue goals as established collaboratively by the CDO and VPGGP.
  • Conduct prospect research to identify new federal, state, local, and private grant opportunities.
  • Develop compelling narratives, budgets, and supporting materials that clearly demonstrate impact and outcomes.
  • Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar tracking Final date to receive applicationss, submissions, and reporting requirements.
  • Manage day-to-day administration of the organization’s grant portfolio, ensuring compliance with all funder requirements.
  • Coordinate post-award activities including reporting, reimbursement requests, budget tracking, and documentation.
  • Maintain organized internal grant files, reporting templates, and funder correspondence systems.
  • Serve as a central point of coordination for grant-related documentation and internal follow-up across departments.
  • Support audits, monitoring visits, and desk reviews by preparing required documentation and responses.
Systems, Data & Internal Coordination
  • Collaborate with program, finance, and operations staff to collect timely data and documentation for grant submissions and reports.
  • Support internal grant tracking systems, dashboards, and compliance checklists.
  • Assist with training staff on grant documentation, reporting expectations, and compliance processes as needed.
Team Support
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and task coordination for grant assistants, interns, or part-time staff as assigned.
  • Serve as the first line of support for grant-related inquiries.
  • Support advocacy efforts under the direction of the VPGGP
  • Support onboarding and workflow management for grant-related staff and contractors.
  • Lead internal grant check-ins and status updates under the direction of the VPGGP.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in grant writing and administration, including federal, state, and local funding sources.
  • Demonstrated success in securing grant awards and supporting revenue goals.
  • Working knowledge of public funding streams (e.g., 21st CCLC, OJJDP, CDBG, or similar programs).
  • Exceptional writing, editing, research, and analytical skills, including data interpretation and budget development.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with CRM or grants management systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. from an accredited college or university, preferably in education, public policy, social sciences, health sciences, communications, or related field.
  • Experience writing federal grants such as DOE, DOJ, HRSA, USDA, SAMHSA, or 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
