DAVENPORT, a regional civil engineering firm, is currently seeking a Regional Business Developer. The position will be responsible for meeting prospective clients and establishing new business relationships for projects taking place in North Carolina. Initial focus of the position will be leveraging DAVENPORT’s recognized expertise in engineering to increase opportunities in the private development industry. Successful candidates will demonstrate a proven track record of implementing business growth, preferably in a professional services firm, an ability to work independently, follow through in a consistent and persistent manner, and exhibit an outgoing and highly motivated personality which will be critical to success.
While the position will be based out of one of DAVENPORT’s North Carolina offices, the position will involve extensive travel (up to 75%) and work outside of a typical office environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the land development process and how professional engineering services support it, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to build client relationships.

The Regional Business Developer must be willing to work out of one of the following DAVENPORT Offices:
Charlotte, Raleigh, Winston-Salem.
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans to penetrate target markets.
- Identify, qualify, and convert leads into long-term clients.
- Achieve assigned quarterly/annual sales targets for engineering services.
- Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective clients.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and client needs.
- Provide feedback to internal teams on market demands and client expectations.
- Spend majority of time (75%) outside the firm making contacts
- Work independently and in conjunction with the team to develop external relationships for the firm
- Schedule meetings with new clients and DAVENPORT team to discuss partnership potential and/or project discovery
- Develop and maintain a strong business network
- Regularly attend industry networking events and actively participate in industry and community organizations which will likely require work outside normal business hours
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering or related field.
- Comprehensive knowledge of real estate development industry. Knowledge of transportation engineering and site-civil consulting services is a plus.
- 8+ years of past proven business development experience in A/E/C industry is preferred.
- Willingness to submit to background check including MVR (motor vehicle report) and drug screen
- Proven track record in hitting sales goals over a sustained period
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Self-motivated with a strong drive to achieve targets
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong research and organizational skills
- Proven ability to follow through in a consistent manner
- Able to work independently and as a member of the team
