Position: Summer 2026 Sports Camp Counselor

The Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center is a non‑profit, social service agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. The Center provides and initiates diversified social, educational, recreational and cultural programs within a Jewish setting. The JCC is a partner in serving the community, is affiliated with the JCC Association of North America and a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Sports Camp Counselor is responsible for providing for the social, emotional and educational needs of each camper and the group as a whole during the camp season.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics, Sports Camp Counselors are responsible for planning, conducting, and supervising a variety of sports activities for campers of various ages in a Sports Camp setting, as well as providing the care and supervision of the campers.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in staff training prior to the beginning of the camp program.
  • Supervision of campers at all times.
  • Supervise health, safety and activities of campers.
  • Follow weekly schedule of events and special activities.
  • Teach/assist in all areas.
  • Take initiative to analyze and solve problems.
  • Supervise and participate with campers in all daily activities.
  • Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Interact with parents in a professional and polite manner.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by Director of Athletics.
  • Assist in the set‑up and clean‑up of all activities and lunch area.
Requirements
  • Completed one year of College or College Degree (preferred).
  • Sports and/or leadership experience.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with children.
  • Good character and integrity.
  • Positive physical and mental health.
  • The desire to work with children in a sports camp setting.
