Overview of the Role

The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Construction Inspector
. This role supports the delivery of projects of varying size and complexity, primarily related to water and wastewater utilities for the business unit. The position is responsible for inspection and testing of utility construction within residential and commercial development projects as well as capital projects to ensure compliance with utility standards and practices. Performs a variety of administrative and technical duties.

Work

Location and Schedule

This position will be based in Charlotte, NC with some travel. May occasionally or frequently travel between worksites on company time or be temporarily assigned to a region.

What You'll Do
  • Inspect the construction of and oversee testing of water mains, sewer mains, reclaimed mains, force mains and lift stations to ensure compliance with company standards and specifications as well as NCDEQ regulations.
  • Inspect the construction of capital projects such as treatment plant rehabilitations, gravity sewer lining, manhole rehabilitations, treatment plant expansions/upgrades and utility relocations.
  • Maintain routine inspection and progress reports for all assigned projects.
  • Inspect construction sites and observe practices for adherence to health and safety standards. Work with Project Managers to determine construction progress and address issues.
  • Coordinate sequencing of capital projects with Operations staff to ensure continuity of service.
  • Coordinate preliminary project information requests such as locates and conflicts with Area Managers.
  • Coordinate inspections with engineers and contractors.
  • Review plans, shop drawings, as-builts and related submittals for compliance with company and regulatory standards and specifications.
  • Review quantities identified on pay applications.
  • Assist with gathering project closeout documents prior to final pay application and/or regulatory approvals.
  • Notify management of current or pending items that could impact the successful construction or completion of projects.
  • Ensure that work performed under capital projects meets company safety policies and procedures.
  • Notify management staff of current or pending escalations, issues or decisions relating to projects, or items that could impact project success.
  • Attend preconstruction and progress meetings as scheduled.
  • Attend routine safety training meetings and project team status meetings as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience What You'll Bring
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of construction experience, preferably related to a combination of safety, inspection, distribution, collection system and treatment plant operation.
  • Technical training in construction methods and standards related to the water & sewer industry.
Education and Licenses
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license
Knowledge,
