The Fordy group are partnered with a top heavy civil GC based in North Carolina. We are seeking an experienced Superintendent with a strong background in heavy civil and highway construction to oversee field operations on complex infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with deep knowledge of earthwork, roadway construction, utilities, structures, and DOT-regulated projects, who can deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and supervise all on‑site construction activities from project start through completion
- Lead and manage field crews, subcontractors, and foremen to ensure productivity and quality
- Enforce safety policies and ensure full compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and owners to resolve field issues
- Review plans, specifications, schedules, and work methods to ensure constructability
- Monitor project progress, manpower, equipment, and materials to meet schedule milestones
- Conduct daily jobsite meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings
- Ensure quality control and adherence to project specifications and contract requirements
- Assist with scheduling, look‑ahead planning, and cost control efforts
- Maintain accurate daily reports, production tracking, and field documentation
- 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent in heavy civil and/or highway construction
- Proven experience with DOT projects, roadway construction, earthwork, grading, utilities, drainage, and paving
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and schedules
- Demonstrated leadership and ability to manage multiple crews and subcontractors
- Strong commitment to jobsite safety and quality
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
- Experience working on state or federal DOT projects
- Knowledge of GPS machine control, surveying, or scheduling software
- OSHA 30 certification
- Background in bridge, structural concrete, or large‑scale infrastructure projects
