Job Description
DPR Construction is seeking a senior estimator with at least 8 years of commercial construction experience. Estimators will work primarily on negotiated commercial projects within our core markets: healthcare, advanced technology, higher education, life sciences and corporate office. Senior estimators will work closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors and are required to have the following skills.
Responsibilities- Handle the project from first estimate all the way through subcontracts being formalized.
- Look beyond the information that has been given, ask the right questions and work to provide a complete project cost evaluation.
- Collaborate and advocate for customers, empowering and informing them throughout the project.
- Provide innovative solutions to complex issues related to cost, lead‑times, trade partners, and/or specified products or materials.
- Make reliable cost predictions and estimate across all scopes of work.
- Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and studies from schematic or feasibility‑level documentation.
- Prepare detailed estimates and develop variance summaries as design evolves, and conduct value engineering studies.
- Assemble a complete presentation‑worthy estimate package that clearly communicates project cost.
- Collaborate with the project team to establish necessary staffing and project requirements.
- Understand unit costs and factors affecting construction cost.
- Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade‑specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
- Participate in the bidding process: solicit bids, communicate with bidders, evaluate proposals, use bid tally sheets.
- Make subcontractor award recommendations and negotiate/finalize subcontracts.
- Lead the preparation and presentation of cost/budget information to the customer/owner.
- Participate as a member of the team involved in request‑for‑proposal responses and formal presentations.
- Develop business with new and existing customers.
- Lead and facilitate value engineering sessions with the project and design teams.
- Review construction contracts, identify key insurance and damage clauses.
- Lead, manage, and motivate project teams during the preconstruction phase.
- Flexible, detail‑oriented team player with ability to manage multiple tasks.

- Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
- Effective team participation, both internal and external.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (Win Est, Timberline, etc.), take‑off software (On‑Screen Takeoff, etc.), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC, etc.), and scheduling software (Primavera, etc.).
- 8+ years of experience as a commercial construction estimator, preferably within DPR’s core markets.
- Bachelor’s degree a plus but not required.
- A strong work ethic and a can‑do attitude.
