Assistant Superintendent

The Assistant Superintendent supports daily field operations by coordinating subcontractors, monitoring progress, reinforcing safety and quality standards, and ensuring work aligns with project plans and schedules. This role works closely with the Superintendent and project leadership to maintain jobsite organization, resolve field issues, and keep construction activities moving efficiently. Through strong communication, disciplined documentation, and proactive engagement, the Assistant Superintendent contributes to high quality project delivery and a positive client experience.

This role also supports continuous improvement efforts, models professionalism, and builds foundational leadership skills within field operations.

Responsibilities
  • Field Coordination & Daily Oversight:
    Assist the Superintendent in managing day-to-day jobsite activities, ensuring subcontractors understand sequencing, access, and expectations. Help maintain site logistics, cleanliness, and operational flow.
  • Safety Support & Compliance Reinforcement:
    Promote a safe jobsite by participating in safety walks, documenting observations, and reinforcing compliance with company and regulatory safety standards. Support toolbox talks and incident follow up as needed.
  • Quality Monitoring & Issue Tracking:
    Perform field checks to verify work aligns with drawings, specifications, and quality standards. Document deficiencies, communicate issues to subcontractors, and track corrective actions.
  • Schedule Support & Progress Documentation:
    Assist in updating short interval schedules and monitoring daily progress. Identify potential delays or constraints and communicate observations to the Superintendent and project team.
  • Subcontractor Coordination:
    Engage with subcontractors to clarify requirements, confirm readiness, and support smooth handoffs between trades. Help ensure subcontractors have the information and access needed to perform their work.
  • Material & Equipment Coordination:
    Verify material deliveries, inspect for compliance, and coordinate distribution on site. Support tracking of long-lead items and ensure materials align with project sequencing.
  • Field Documentation & Reporting:
    Prepare daily reports, maintain as-built drawings, track inspections, and support RFI and submittal processes. Ensure documentation is accurate, timely, and aligned with project requirements.
  • Site Logistics & Planning Support:
    Assist in implementing site logistics plans, including traffic flow, laydown areas, and equipment staging. Help anticipate field needs and coordinate resources accordingly.
  • Punchlist & Closeout Assistance:
    Support punchlist creation, tracking, and resolution. Assist with final inspections, as-built updates, and turnover documentation.
  • Team Collaboration & Learning:
    Work closely with superintendents, project engineers, and project managers to understand project goals and field strategies. Seek opportunities to learn, improve, and contribute to a culture of operational excellence.
Requirements

Experience

  • Typically 2-4+ years of construction field experience, preferably with a general contractor
  • Familiarity with construction sequencing, field coordination, and jobsite operations
  • Experience reading drawings and supporting field documentation
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background checks

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills across field and office environments
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical information
  • Solid organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency with digital construction tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling platforms)
  • Problem solving mindset with willingness to take initiative
