Job Description
DPR Construction seeks an Electrical Estimator with at least five years of commercial construction experience. Estimators will work primarily on negotiated commercial projects within our core markets and collaborate with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors.
Responsibilities- Handling the project from first estimate all the way through subcontracts being formalized.
- Looking beyond the information that has been given, asking the right questions and providing a complete project cost evaluation.
- Acting as a collaborative and passionate advocate for customers, empowering and informing them throughout the project.
- Providing aggressive innovative solutions to complex issues related to cost, lead‑times, trade partners, and specified products or materials.
- Making reliable cost predictions and estimating across all scopes of work.
- Preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates and studies from schematic or feasibility level documentation.
- Preparing detailed estimates and, as the design evolves, developing variance summaries between estimates and value engineering studies.
- Assembling a complete presentation‑worthy estimate package that clearly communicates project cost.
- Collaborating with the project team to establish necessary staffing and project requirements.
- Understanding unit costs and the factors that affect construction cost.
- Preparing detailed instructions to bidders, trade‑specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
- Managing the bidding process: soliciting bids, communicating with bidders, evaluating subcontractor proposals, and using bid tally sheets.
- Recommending subcontractor awards to the customer/owner and negotiating and finalizing subcontracts with trade partners.
- Participating and often leading the preparation and presentation of cost/budget information to the customer/owner.
- Being a member of the team involved in request for proposal responses (RFPs) and formal project presentations.
- Engaging and developing business with new and existing customers.
- Five or more years of experience as a commercial construction estimator, preferably within DPR’s core markets.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (Win Est, Timberline or similar), take‑off software (On‑Screen Takeoff or similar), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
- Excellent listening and strong communication skills.
- Creative and innovative approaches to solution development on a project‑by‑project basis.
- Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
- Effective participation in a team environment with both external and internal teammates.
- A strong work ethic and a “can‑do” attitude.
- Bachelor’s degree a plus but not required.
