What is the Opportunity?Under the general supervision of the Director of Estimating, the Senior Nuclear Estimator will be responsible for the preparation and documentation of cost estimates and execution plans for the construction of various nuclear projects. The role includes computing cost estimates for raw materials purchased or leased equipment, subcontracted work, and labor required in the bid tendering process.
Citizenship RequirementThis position requires access to nuclear facilities and information governed by U.S. federal regulations. Applicants must be U.S. citizens to meet eligibility and security clearance requirements.
What You’ll Do Here- Develop detailed cost estimates and budgets for bids and awarded projects.
- Maintain and utilize a historical cost database.
- Participate in design reviews for Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP), Civil and Architectural Subcontract packages with client key stakeholders.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Perform value engineering and constructability reviews.
- Oversee projects that have been successfully bid and are under construction to learn the actual methods and costs of field operations.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and unit pricing using estimating software.
- Solicit pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
- Maintain current material pricing within estimating systems.
- Develop expertise in construction means and methods and cost drivers.
- Support project turnover to Project Management teams.
- Participate in site visits, as required, for complex projects.
- Lead or contribute to tender closings, including proposal compilation and review meetings.
- Review addendums, change orders, and other bid-related updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Degree or diploma in Engineering, Project Management, or equivalent experience.
- 5–10 years of estimating experience, including nuclear construction projects of moderate to high complexity.
- Demonstrate strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Nuclear construction practices and procurement methods
- Project controls, cost management, and scheduling
- Construction drawings, specifications, and contract terms.
- Experience with tools such as:
- MS Excel, Word, Project
- InEight (Hard Dollar) or similar estimating software
- Solid understanding of:
- Value engineering and conceptual estimating
- Subcontractor scopes and market conditions
- Contract language/Terms and Conditions/Bonding, etc.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Preferred:
- RICS or AACE accreditation (or in progress)
- Commercial nuclear experience
