A Day in the Life of an Assistant Project Manager

As an Assistant Project Manager at First Onsite, you're at the heart of every project, turning plans into action and challenges into solutions. You'll collaborate closely with leadership to evaluate, develop, and execute scopes of work while keeping multiple projects running smoothly. From reviewing subcontractor proposals to preparing project schedules, your meticulous attention to detail ensures nothing slips through the cracks.

You're the go-to problem solver, ready to step in and support crews whenever needed, all while maintaining accurate records and documentation that keep projects on track. Safety, quality, and excellence aren't just priorities—they're your standard.

Your role goes beyond managing tasks—you'll actively monitor project budgets, profit margins, and schedules, making real‑time decisions to keep everything on target. Acting as a vital bridge between leadership, clients, subcontractors, and in‑house teams, you foster collaboration and clear communication every step of the way. You'll handle scopes of work, change orders, and billing with precision, thriving in a fast‑paced environment where your contributions directly impact our success.

Primary

Experience
  • 2-5+ years of commercial construction experience (Assistant PM, Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or Superintendent support).
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Background in interior renovations, healthcare, education, municipal, or commercial construction preferred.
  • Restoration experience is a plus but not required.
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction processes from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with project scheduling and coordination.
  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, budgets, and buyout processes.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and vendors.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams); experience with Procore, or similar PM software is preferred.
Leadership Traits
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem solver who anticipates issues before they become problems.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Excellent communicator with both field personnel and clients.
  • Able to prioritize effectively and perform well under pressure.

  • Helps maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

  • Demonstrates initiative and a desire to grow into a Project Manager role.
  • Thrives in a fast‑growing branch with an emphasis on planned commercial construction work.
Preferred Background
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred but not required with equivalent experience).
  • Experience working for a commercial general contractor or construction management firm.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
  • Stable work history with demonstrated career progression.
