Construction Project Manager – Custom Residential

Location: Charlotte, NC (In-person)
Job Type: Full-time |
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift

About the Role

The Project Manager at Whitlock Builders assumes full responsibility for overseeing, managing, and executing all tasks necessary to successfully complete new construction and renovation projects in the custom residential sector. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong leadership, and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple job sites to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities General Responsibilities
  • Apply knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques for high‑end custom home construction and interior renovations
  • Communicate clearly and accurately with all project stakeholders, including clients, architects, designers, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Implement and enforce company protocols, processes, and procedures on all sites
  • Propose improvements to existing procedures and resolve on‑site challenges
Client & Architect Relations
  • Conduct regular site meetings with clients and architects
  • Follow up all meetings with written documentation
  • Submit RFIs and shop drawings in a timely manner
  • Maintain regular client communication and manage project documents related to scope or specification changes
Job Preparation
  • Material take‑offs and orders
  • Apply for and obtain building permits
  • Maintain plans, specifications, production schedules, and customer task/selection lists
  • Select and approve vendors and subcontractors
Job Budgeting & Accounting
  • Prepare budget estimates, track change orders, and update budgets
  • Review and code invoices, track customer allowances, and reconcile final billing
  • Monitor job costs and regularly analyze project financials
Site Management
  • Supervise jobsite cleanliness, protection, and safety
  • Inspect work to ensure quality standards
  • Schedule and oversee subcontractors
  • Ensure inspections are completed and documented
  • Maintain accurate daily field reports and project documentation
Success Criteria
  • Effectively plan, schedule, and coordinate projects to meet deadlines and quality expectations
  • Maintain accurate records of schedules, approvals, costs, and change orders
  • Achieve high customer satisfaction ratings
  • Proactively resolve issues during production and communicate outcomes clearly
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in custom residential construction (required)
  • Current OSHA 10 Safety Certification (required)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
