Join a Growing Highway & Specialty Construction Contractor
A well-established contractor specializing in fence, guardrail, highway safety, and traffic control infrastructure is seeking an experienced Fence & Guardrail Estimator to join its growing estimating team.
This position is responsible for preparing competitive bids for commercial, industrial, municipal, and Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). throughout the Southeast. The ideal candidate has strong estimating experience, enjoys working in a collaborative environment, and has a thorough understanding of highway and specialty construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare complete and accurate estimates for fence, guardrail, and highway safety projects.
- Review plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to determine project scope and pricing.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
- Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Develop competitive bid proposals while maintaining company profitability.
- Interpret project specifications and ensure compliance with owner and agency requirements.
- Coordinate with project managers and field operations to validate production rates and construction methods.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and perform occasional site visits as needed.
- Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors, municipalities, and public agencies.
- Track historical cost data and continuously improve estimating accuracy.
- Assist with value engineering, change orders, and additional pricing throughout project execution.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in fencing, guardrail, highway safety, heavy civil, roadway, or related construction.
- Experience estimating projects for NCDOT, SCDOT, GDOT, TDOT, VDOT, or other state Department of Transportation agencies.
- Strong understanding of DOT specifications, bid documents, letting procedures, and public agency requirements.
- Experience preparing quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimates.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Proficiency with construction estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids while meeting strict deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating chain link, ornamental, security, highway right-of-way, access control, and specialty fencing systems.
- Knowledge of guardrail systems, traffic safety products, roadway signage, or related infrastructure.
- Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements and public-sector bidding procedures.
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field is preferred but not required.
- Competitive salary starting at $90,000+, depending on experience
