This position will also provide technical support and guidance to other members of the estimating team, helping to maintain a high standard of accuracy and consistency across all bids.

Core Responsibilities
  • Review invitations to bid and assess projects based on scope, complexity, schedule, resources, and commercial risk.
  • Examine construction drawings, specifications, contract documents, addenda, schedules, and other relevant information to establish the full project scope.
  • Determine labour, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other project costs required to complete the work.
  • Complete detailed electrical takeoffs and develop comprehensive estimates for major construction projects.
  • Identify scope discrepancies, omissions, conflicts, exclusions, and potential areas of risk before bids are submitted.
  • Develop project-specific estimating strategies based on the type of work, contract requirements, market conditions, and project objectives.

  • Ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted within established deadlines.
  • Obtain competitive pricing from material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, subcontractors, and other third parties.
  • Review quotations to ensure pricing is accurate and that all required scope is included.
  • Compare supplier and subcontractor proposals and identify any discrepancies or gaps.
  • Maintain current pricing information and estimating databases, including labour rates, material costs, productivity factors, taxes, and regional adjustments.
  • Monitor changes in material pricing, labour costs, market conditions, and other factors that may impact project estimates.
  • Use historical project data and market information to improve the accuracy of future estimates.
Labour & Workforce Planning

  • Account for applicable union agreements, wage rates, work rules, jurisdictional requirements, and other labour considerations.
  • Apply a strong understanding of electrical field productivity when developing labour budgets.
  • Consider manpower requirements, sequencing, overtime, site conditions, and project-specific constraints when establishing labour costs.
  • Ensure estimates reflect applicable federal, state, and local employment and labour requirements.
Project Transition
  • Participate in the transition of awarded projects from estimating into operations.
  • Lead estimate handoff meetings with Project Managers, Superintendents, and other members of the project team.
  • Communicate key assumptions, exclusions, allowances, labour budgets, procurement requirements, and identified risks.
  • Provide clarification and support to project teams when questions arise regarding the original estimate.
  • Assist with value engineering, scope development, change order pricing, and budget reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support preconstruction teams with constructability reviews, scheduling considerations, procurement planning, and project development.
  • Provide technical direction and day-to-day support to other members of the estimating team.
  • Mentor Junior and Intermediate Estimators, helping develop their technical and commercial estimating abilities.
  • Review estimates and takeoffs prepared by less experienced team members where required.
