Kleinfelder – a leading construction services organization – is seeking an ICC Special Inspector/CMT Technician located in Charlotte, NC
.
The selected candidate will conduct field observations, material testing, safety compliance, and reporting on construction and bridges/roadway projects throughout North Carolina.
Required Certifications & Experience- 3+ years in special inspection and/or construction materials testing.
- Radiation safety training for operation of a nuclear density gauge.
- ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade 1.
- ICC Reinforced Concrete certification.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and use of a company‑provided laptop or tablet.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong work ethic, personal integrity, and ability to report results verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency in preparing clear, detailed testing and inspection reports and maintaining activity records.
- Attention to detail, quality, and safety.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Perform field observations and material sampling/testing on buildings, bridges, and roadways.
- Test construction materials such as soils, reinforcing steel, concrete, masonry, structural steel, fireproofing, metal decking, roofing, and paving.
- Write daily field reports documenting contractor work and compliance with contract documents.
- Cast field samples of concrete, masonry, grout, etc. for strength verification.
- Provide daily phone updates to the department manager on project progress.
- Collect construction material samples and deliver to laboratory, and deliver equipment to site technicians.
- Bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds repetitively and over 50 pounds using handling equipment.
- Operate heavy equipment such as ultrasonic non‑destructive testing machines and concrete cylinder presses.
- Maintain safe mobility over construction obstacles, rough ground, and steep surfaces.
- Work outdoors in variable weather and in laboratories with requisite safety protection.
- NCDOT testing/inspection certifications.
- ICC Special Inspector certifications (Pre‑stressed Concrete, Soil, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Structural Welding, Structural Steel and Bolting).
- PTI Unbonded Level 1 or 2.
- Cast Auger Piles.
- One year or more experience in construction materials engineering & testing and special inspections.
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office, including PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Background in vertical construction with emphasis on soil and concrete field testing preferred.
- Pay‑check badge required for safety compliance.
