Director of Real Estate Development & Construction Charlotte, NC | In Office | ~30% Travel
Morrow & Associates has been retained by a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial developer/owner/operator to identify a Director of Real Estate Development & Construction to support the continued expansion of its multi-site, ground-up retail portfolio of freestanding automotive service locations.
Based in the company’s Midtown Charlotte office, this is a hands-on owner’s representative role with approximately 30% travel, primarily throughout the East Coast. The Director will partner directly with ownership and manage multiple projects from early site evaluation and due diligence through development, construction and turnover, as well as renovations and capital improvement projects across the existing portfolio.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in site evaluation, feasibility and due diligence
- Lead entitlements, permitting and municipal approvals
- Manage architects, civil engineers and third-party consultants
- Manage project budgets, schedules and preconstruction
- Lead bidding and contractor selection
- Serve as owner’s representative, overseeing third-party GCs through construction and turnover
- Manage multiple projects and proactively resolve development and construction issues
- Approximately 10 years of hands‑on development and construction experience
- Ground‑up experience from predevelopment through completion
- Strong knowledge of site/civil development, entitlements, permitting and construction
- Experience managing third‑party GCs, architects, engineers and consultants
- Retail, automotive, convenience store, QSR, car wash, industrial/service or similar ground‑up development experience is a plus
- Comfortable operating as a hands‑on senior individual contributor in an entrepreneurial environment
