Construction Crew Leader For one year, get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time Ameri Corps service position offers a great opportunity to make an impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

Ameri Corps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.

Typically serve Tuesday – Saturday on the build site.

Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.

Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.

Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.

Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

Activities and attractions:
Our offices and Ameri Corps apartments are less than 15 minutes away from uptown Charlotte, a three hour drive from the beaches of North and South Carolina, and a two hour drive from the Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition, local activities include Carowinds, The US. Whitewater Center, the Mint Museum, and the Charlotte History Museum.

Unique projects:
During the first few weeks of their service terms, members will participate in a goal creation meeting with their supervisors. These goals will be revisited at their 60-day, mid-year, and end-of-year reviews, and can be modified at any time. Our staff members have prepared to supervise their Ameri Corps members by outlining tasks for each Ameri Corps position to complete on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, and will use the completion of these tasks to see track the successes of the Ameri Corps position.

We believe that member development, personal and professional growth during their term is another factor in determining the success of the project and will implement a monthly all-Ameri Corps training day to invite guest speakers and outside organizations to speak and teach the Ameri Corps in addition to check-ins with the Host Site Manager to ensure a positive experience for our affiliate and for the member serving.

When will you serve?

Start dates are flexible and based on this location’s availability. Talk to the hiring manager for this position about start dates during your interview process. The start date will be 4-6 weeks from receiving an offer and no earlier than September 2026.Benefits of Ameri Corps service
