We are excited to offer a summer internship program that will provide hands-on experience and developmental opportunities. At SERC, we are committed to ensuring the reliability and security of the BPS through strategic partnerships with the best and brightest individuals from both the power industry and federal government. We are extending these partnerships to up and coming young professionals to create a talent pipeline and ensure a reliable power grid for years to come.
The Communications Intern will support the Communications team in creating and delivering engaging, high-quality content across multiple channels. This role offers hands-on experience in strategic internal and external communications, digital media, visual storytelling, and video production. The intern will collaborate closely with team members to support newsletters, social media, graphic design, digital signage, and other communication initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the creation, editing, and distribution of newsletters (internal and/or external)
- Support social media content development, scheduling, and basic analytics tracking
- Create graphics and visual assets for digital and print communications using approved brand guidelines
- Help storyboard, script, and edit simple video projects (e.g., report summaries, announcements, social media clips)
- Assist with the development and maintenance of digital signage content
- Support content planning and organization across communication channels
- Proofread and edit content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency
- Help maintain content calendars and project timelines
- Participate in team meetings and contribute creative ideas
- Provide general administrative and project support to the Communications team as
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program (Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic knowledge of social media platforms (e.g., Linked In and X)
- Experience with or interest in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks
- Creative mindset with a willingness to learn and take feedback
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Familiarity with email marketing tools or content management systems
- Basic understanding of branding and visual standards
- Experience creating digital or multimedia content

This is a paid internship starting at $20 per hour, 40 hours per week for up to 12 weeks (5/18/26 – 8/7/26).
This internship is located in Charlotte, NC with a minimum of 3 days per week expected in the office. No additional benefits or stipends are associated with this internship.
