Department Detail

The Communications Department at BGEA consists of project management, ecommerce, email marketing, advertising, public relations/social media/promotion, creative services (graphic design, content writing/proofing and production), and Decision magazine, our official monthly publication. The department tells the story of what God is doing through the BGEA by creating print and online content that support the organization’s mission of proclaiming the Gospel, negotiating paid and leveraging unpaid promotional placements, and engaging new and existing supporters with targeted content using a combination of indirect and direct communications channels.

Job Summary

The Senior Writer is responsible for writing copy required for marketing and advertising promotion of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. This position will be part of a creative team and requires ability and willingness to work independently or under direction of senior staff.

Ministry Requirements
  • Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ
  • Faithfully upholds BGEA in prayer
  • Participates in daily BGEA staff devotions including Bible reading, and leading group prayer as schedule permits
  • Demonstrates behavior aligned with BGEA’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Hallmarks, policies, and expectations
  • Effectively represents Jesus Christ to those within both personal and professional spheres of influence
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with Communications team to craft key messaging and strategy for Direct Mail material—including the monthly prayer letter, inserts, and other donor communications
  • Writes text for direct mail pieces, training materials, promotional and marketing pieces, and internal/Board communications
  • Delineates the scope and requirements for copy needed in each project
  • Researches background information related to projects to enhance the overall concept
  • Proofreads and copy edits materials at various stages of development
  • Ensures material is factually accurate, Biblically and doctrinally sound, and consistent with BGEA style
  • Writes and copy edits ministry emails
  • Continuously strives to deliver a creative product that upholds the integrity of Billy Graham and BGEA and reflects the glory of God
  • Conceptualizes and brainstorms with other team members to create engaging donor content
  • Meets deadlines
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities

Job Specifications Skills and Knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or related field—or equivalent experience with proven written communications skills
  • Ten (10) years related experience and/or training
  • Strong writing, creative thinking, and conceptual skills
  • Excellent proofreading ability with command of grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills
  • Competency in MS Word or equivalent
  • Ability to learn and navigate project flow software systems
  • Portfolio of completed work required for consideration
  • Passion for serving Jesus through BGEA
  • Christian testimony that is displayed in behavior both inside and outside the workplace
